The world has transformed into an electronic based world. So, there are many things that are turning themselves into electronics. The technology of electronic paper display is very well known. There are many e-book readers that are helping the e-book readers like Kindle and Sony Reader 505. 

There is a wave of change all around the globe that has also transformed the book publishing world. The researchers and Pundits believe that in the near future, the paper covered book that we all know will not be available. The technology is growing very fast to almost all areas of the world. This technology can be seen to all parts of the world as an alternative of paperback edition. It is now commercially and commonly available in grayscale all over the globe.

Technology used in Electronic paper:

Electronic paper or e-paper or you may also call it electronic ink is basically a type of display technologies that tries to mimic the appearance of normal or ordinary ink on the paper. The electronic paper actually displays reflect light like paper. This helps them more comfortable to read by the users and readers. It provides a wider and better viewing angle than the other most  LED displays.

Electronic paper basically comprises of two different parts. The first one is the electronic ink. It is also known as the “Frontplane.” The other part of this technology is the electronics that are required to generate the Electronic paper in which there are various patterns of text and images. It is done on the e-ink page which is called the backplane.

There are number of different technologies that are involved in the production of e-paper. Some of the companies are using plastic substrate with the electronic. It helps make the display of the e paper flexible. The reader will be more comfortable with this view. There will be a stable image and the reader will not have to refresh it again and again. The electronic paper is very light in weight enjoyed by its users. There is a limited color representation but this problem will be solved in near future.

Many electronic paper technologies that can be seen today hold static text and also images indefinitely without electricity. This flexible and easy to use electronic paper actually uses plastic substrates and also the plastic electronics for displaying the backplane. There is a competition going on among the manufacturers to provide the full-color ability.

The today's EPDs and today's e-book readers are basically only the beginning.

EPD technology has been introduced and used long time ago. The idea of Electronic paper can be explained in a way that it is a data display that looks like a sheet of paper. It also works like a sheet of paper. We can say that this type of work has been printed electronically.

The first Manufacturer of Epaper:

The first launch of Electronic paper technology was done by Nick Sheridon. It was happened in 1970’s at Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center. This technology was called Gyricon that had been using some kind of small rotating spheres that are made of electrically charged plastic. This plastic was black from one side and white from the other and it was hanged in bubbles of oil that is between the transparent electrodes.

Advantages of Electronic Paper:

There are many advantages of reading and using an E-paper.  The first advantage of E-paper is it is very bright. This type of electronic paper does not fade away with time like paper back. The readers will not have a discolored page to read.

Another advantage of E paper is it is using an internet access; therefore number of books or several papers can be saved on your devise. Unlike this, in case of the paperback books and papers you have to buy them separately. The electronic paper can also take any shape. It is known to be a flexible paper.

Disadvantages of using an Electronic paper:

There is always a bad side of every new product or you can say that there are some drawbacks of innovations as well. Similarly, the E-paper has some disadvantages for its users. Some of them are as follows:

The first and major disadvantage of Electronic paper is that if you are going to some route you may face some problem. If, your mobile or laptops battery dies, you will not be able to read the paper. This drawback is not with the paperback books and papers. You can take them with you and read any time you want. 

Another disadvantage of this technology is there is an issue of hanging images that are always available on the screen. The blurred images can keep you disturb all the way and obviously that is not with the paperback edition of the books and other reading materials. 

The price of the Electronic paper is not also affordable to many of the readers. It actually targets few audiences that are able to buy them. The third world countries have a very little know how about these papers. That is why these papers need to go to long run to reach every common man.

Last but not the least, there are number of unwilling advertisements on the Electronic paper that you cannot avoid at all. The pop up on your screen without your permission and it will certainly annoy you. There is a paid option that you have to choose to avoid these advertisements.  

But all of the researchers and manufacturers of this Electronic paper believe that the technology of e-paper is getting improved day by day. They believe that the real success will come when this electronic paper will reach to every single home or person in the world. There is a lot of more space to do on this innovation but work and research is going on.

The one positive thing that is created by this E paper is that the cutting of trees for the paperback edition will be lowered down in all parts of the world.
